Local Impact

The $100,000 grant awarded to the Chicago Lights Urban Farm will fully fund the purchase, installation and supplies needed for a hard-shelled greenhouse learning lab in the Cabrini-Green neighborhood.  This lab will be used year-round for food production, to provide space for an indoor classroom and as a meeting area for children's programs, community residents and the youth who are employed by the farm.  The Chicago Lights Urban Farm provides youth and community residents with access to organic produce, nutritional education, work force training and microenterprise development.  It also provides neighborhood children and youth with a safe space to spend time and opportunities to learn about urban agriculture.
